As you all know, this blog documents my JOURNEY to wellness. So as I continue to transition to a healthier lifestyle, I am surprised again and again by the everyday harms that we unknowingly consume. This blog post is going to focus on how our conventional toothpaste brands are loaded with toxins and I have a few recommendations for natural alternatives.
Did you know that the main chemical ingredient in pesticide is the same ingredient in conventional toothpaste?
Did you know fluoride kills your thyroid by poisoning the enzymes in it?
Did you know the ingredient Titanium Dioxide causes cancerous growths?
Since your mouth is highly absorbent, chemicals are able to quickly enter your blood stream. On average, an American uses about 20 gallons of toothpaste in their lifetime. Imagine how many chemicals enter your bloodstream just from brushing your teeth EACH AND EVERY DAY.
Instead of using conventional toothpaste brands full of toxins, I recommend trying one of the following toothpaste brands:
1. David’s
2. Simplicity Toothsoap
3. Dr. Bonners
DAVID’S
Think Dirty, an app that rates products based on its toxicity level, rated David’s a 0 – which is the best possible score.
And as if this product wasn’t awesome enough, the packaging is even earth-friendly. The metal tube is recyclable, the paperboard packaging is made with 100% wind energy, and David’s is a cruelty free company and does not test on animals.
Want to try out David’s toothpaste? The company is giving you 25% off when you use BYOK’s promo code “BOOCH”! Offer ends June 9, 2017.
Simplicity Toothpaste
Simplicity toothpaste is made of simple ingredients derived from plants, including organic vegetable glycerin, sodium bicarbonate, water and essential oils. The company does not test on animals and prides itself on keeping the toothsoap at a affordable price.
Be on the lookout for Simplicity Toothpaste which is set to launch on June 1, 2017. Check them out here!
Dr. Bonner’s
Dr. Bonner’s is a favorite since it comes in three flavors: peppermint, cinnamon, and anise. Their formula contains no no synthetic detergent foaming agents, is fluoride-free, vegan and cruelty-free, with no artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, or sweeteners. My teeth always feel super fresh and clean after using this brand.

I also wanted to point out the toothbrush that I currently use. The brush is made of MAO Bamboo (instead of plastic) and it is BPA Free (Non-Toxic) bristles and is just as effective as conventional toothbrushes. I found mine here.
