Did you know that not all candles are created equal?
It’s true. The American Chemical Society has done a study which proves that certain types of candles add pollutants to your air. More importantly, its the air inside your home that is being polluted.
Most candles are made with paraffin wax. Paraffin wax is derived from petroleum and scented with synthetic fragrances, also derived from petroleum. See a trend here?
When burned, the candles emit various levels of toxic chemicals including but not limited to cancer-causing toluene and benzene, alkanes and alkenes.
Okay, here’s an even scarier fact. The soot can specifically harm babies as it can cause premature birth and low birth weight. (Fore more facts, check out an awesome article by Mom’s Clean Air Force here).
What to do because you LOVE burning that pumpkin spice candle in the fall?
Well, there are eco-friendly candles out there on the market. My favorite is Coco Chantel Candles by Chantel. Her candles are created in small batches, using only the best essential oils and fragrances. Coco Chantel Candles are made with vegetable soy wax, natural cotton wicks and contains no animal products. Her candles burn longer and cleaner with every item in the product being eco-friendly.
Not to mention, I love her motive for making the eco friendly candles.
“I wanted to create a product that has minimum impact on our environment and make the candle as a whole, eco-friendly. Made from vegetable wax and producing less soot than paraffin candles, Coco Chantel Candles are vegan & eco-friendly, making it better for the environment and your home.”
AND she has so many scent options including: Vanilla, Lavender, Cinnamon, Hazelnut Coffee, and Coconut.
I even love how she came up with the name of her brand!
“The name of my candles is my dog Coco and my name together. I choose the color turquoise, as in the ocean, because these candles are crafted by the beach! I choose a lotus flower as part of my logo because it means new beginnings and seeing the light in any situation. So grab a candle, “light” it up and watch your environment turn into tranquility.”
It’s get even better. Each hand crafted candle comes with a seed paper gift tag that will turn into flowers when planted. And the 8oz mason jar used as the container is recyclable. Once the candle has burned down, you can upcycle it for anything you would like. A candy jar or adult beverage anyone?
