Before I had kids, I would casually drink my carefully crafted coffee every morning and enjoy every sip. Nowadays, I am reheating the same organic coffee with raw milk about 3987987 times before I get to actually drink it – HA! Except recently, I found these locally made coffee bombs in Whole Foods and it has been a game changer – it has collagen protein, MCT oil and grass fed butter. All you have to do is drop it in your coffee, drop of milk and blend. So I reached out to Sarah Rioux, co founder over at Lady Bird Provisions and wanted to find out more. Here is what she told me about the brand:
I love the name Ladybird provisions and I suspect I know where it may have originated but from those outside of ATX, how did Ladybird provisions get its name? When was it started?
Sarah: Nicole and I wanted the name of our company to symbolize Austin and were working through some names. One morning on a run around Ladybird Lake (or Town Lake), which has always been a way to clear my mind and where a lot of the planning/dreaming/imagining for our company came from, the name Ladybird seemed like a perfect fit. And when it wasn’t “taken” we knew it was the right name. It was a “know-brainer” 😉
What is the difference between the dry bombs v. other bombs? What are in the “dry bombs”?
Sarah: Dry Bombs are a shelf stable dairy-free collagen creamer made with organic coconut milk powder, collagen, orgainc coconut oil, medicinal spices and the essential amino acid L-Tryptophan which makes every serving a complete protein (collagen is missing L-tryptophan making it incomplete on its own). Dry Bombs are delicious on their own if on the go, but I like my coffee extra creamy so I usually add some liquid cream in my cup if I am home.
Coffee Bombs are perishable and are made of organic coconut oil, grass-fed butter, collagen peptides and medicinal spices. Each Bomb is intentionally crafted and perfectly portioned to benefit the mind and body. Keto/Paleo friendly, naturally gluten free.
What makes your bombs different from others on the market?
Sarah: Everything! 😉 We hand produce everything right here in Austin with a whole lot of love. Nicole is a Drugless Practioner and I am a Registered Dietitian – and we really care about ingredients. Everything we use is clean, intentional, and has our consumers’ health in mind.
Coffee Bombs: There is nothing on the market quite like them. Simply drop a Bomb into your favorite hot beverage of choice (coffee, milk, or tea), blend and enjoy! A delicious functional beverage is ready in seconds.
Dry Bombs: Dry Bombs are the only collagen supplement out there that is a complete protein on its own. We added 100 mg of L-Tryptophan to each serving so that each serving is a complete protein on its own. Collagen is lacking the essential amino acid L-Tryptophan making it an incomplete protein on its own.
Can we chat about the ingredients some more, why these specific supplements for coffee? (Is it part of a certain diet/lifestyle?)
Sarah: The healthy fats found in Coffee Bombs binds to caffeine in coffee or tea which allows your body to use that energy at a slower pace- allowing for more sustained energy release throughout the day. The fats are also scientifically proven to support brain function and focus- all around wins. Collagen is beneficial for gut health, joint health and supports healthy hair, skin and nails. The spices we use are all medicinal grade- meaning that they each benefit the body in a different way. Raw cacao has been used for centuries as a natural mood elevator. Ceylon cinnamon can help regulate blood sugars. Vanilla is naturally calming. All ingredients are intentional and beneficial in one way or another.
What are the current available flavors? Any additional flavors coming out soon or new products coming in the future?
Sarah: We are always cookin’ up new recipes in the Ladybird kitchen. We have several new Coffee Bomb flavors in the pipeline (golden mylk, sweet cream, lavender, vegan, and mexican mocha). We can’t wait to see more flavors hit the shelves!
We are working on a seasonal flavor for Dry Bombs. Pumpkin Spice, Peppermint, and Mexican Mocha (drool face)
We also have some new innovation (hydration mix) in the works but that is in the very beginning stages right now.
Best way or your favorite way to make coffee with your blend bombs? Any other unique ways to consume the blender bombs?
Sarah: Blending them in hot coffee is the BEST! The creamy, richness is priceless and unique in a way that makes me smile. I also love spreading Bombs on toast in the morning and sometimes even just eating them like a treat.
You can add a Cacao Bomb into hot mylk for a delicious (and healthy) hot choclate!
