Let’s get straight to the point – conventional coffee is downright dirty.
HUH?
Yep, conventional coffee is dirty friends. It’s full of pesticides and toxins and it literally makes me sick thinking about it.
Some toxins that you may find in your coffee include:
- Pesticides: Did you know that coffee is a heavily chemically treated crop? And that contrary to popular belief, according to studies, the roasting process does not eradicate the pesticides from the coffee crops. And you might have heard that the roasting process actually destroys the pesticides, however a lot of research suggests that the roasting actually does not eradicate the pesticides. (read more here). Furthermore, per Purity Coffee, “Of the coffees worldwide, 97% are treated with pesticides and other chemicals, while only 3% of the coffees available today are organic.” EEK! That means your morning cup of coffee is likely to have some pesticides in it. YUCK.
- Ochratoxin A: I had no idea about this one until I read it on the Purity Coffee website. Apparently, Ochratoxin A is a natural poison that – WAIT FOR IT – is TOXIC TO YOUR KIDNEYS!!!!
- Acrylamide: According to Healthline, “Acrylamide is a potentially harmful chemical formed during the coffee bean roasting process.” It is known to increase your risk of cancer.
- Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons: These are suspected to be carcinogenic and mutagenic per this study.
