Stink. Stank. Stunk.
That is exactly what happened when I switched over from my DOVE deodorant to a natural deodorant. Let me start at the beginning though….
As you may or may not know, using natural deodorant is pretty darn important. WHY? Well our store brand deodorants contain many unsafe ingredients including: aluminum, propylene glycol, triclosan, phytalates, parabens, fragrances, aluminum chlorohydrate, TEA, DEA, FD&C colors, and Talc.
What is the harm? Well, Aluminum causes both benign and malignant breast cysts and it is also a neurotoxin which links to diseases such as Alzheimers and Parkinsonism. Parabins and Phthalates are known to interefere with hormone receptors. And propylene gylcol negatively affects the nervous system, liver, and heart. The list goes ON AND ON. (Read more about it here).
After reading about the negative health affects, I wanted to take the next step and use natural deodorant. Although we can not avoid each and every harm in the world, we can certainly try out best to avoid any harms that we ARE aware of. So I went to Whole Foods, purchased a few natural deoderants, and went on with my life. (I tried this back in January by the way).
And with each and every brand my husband would tell me….Your deodorant is not working. Yep, I was STINKY. I had the STANK.
So I went back to using my DOVE deodorant for a few weeks. Then I stumbled upon “Holly’s Keeping It Real” deodorant.
(PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT SPONSORED I REALLY JUST LOVE THIS BRAND!)
I ordered it from her etsy store and never looked back. It withstands my stink, stank, stunk including my hot yoga workouts and 5k runs. There are only four ingredients including: coconut oil, arrowroot powder, baking soda and an essential oil (comes in three scents: lavender, sweet orange and grape fruit).
Best of all: One jar lasts for SO LONG. I have had my original jar since February and I still have half a jar left and we are in mid-May!
I even chatted with Holly Tristan about her product and why she started it. She explained:
I had tried 20+ organic brands and I swear they made me smell worse. That’s when I threw in the towel and started making my own. My friends and family loved it so much that I felt I needed to keep spreading the word and getting more people off the chemical deodorant – it’s so bad, especially for us women!!”
And for anyone who wants to try it out, for a limited time (until June 8th!) Holly has generously offered my readers a coupon code for 15% off. Just enter the promo code: BOOCH at checkout. Check out her etsy shop here.
Let me know your thoughts on the stink, stank, stunk. Sip, Sip and BOOCH ON!! xo Erica
