Today’s feature is Katherine Rumbaugh of Our Tiny Traveler. She has an etsy shop where she creates and sells adorable clothes for little ones, most of them with a traveling theme. Lizzie LOVES her NJ shirt as you can see below.
Her creations are adorable and really make the perfect gift for the little one in your life this holiday season. And of course, Katherine takes custom orders! Scroll down to learn more about Our Tiny Traveler shop and #shopsmall this holiday season!
What is our tiny traveler?
Katherine: We sell baby onesies, toddler t-shirts and sweatshirts, and adult shirts made with fabrics from around the world. The majority of our fabrics right now are from Ghana, India, Belize and Guatemala. We are constantly getting new fabrics in; thankfully I have a lot of friends who travel the world and bring them back for me!
That is SO COOL! Where did you come up with the adorable name?
Katherine: I was inspired by my friend’s baby who had traveled across the country and to a bunch of National Parks before she turned one. Most of my friends are new moms and bring their babies along with them all over the world, I think it’s amazing!
Traveling with babies is no joke so I love seeing other mothers conquer that as well. What inspired you become an entrepreneur?
Katherine: I was at the time in life when all of my friends were getting married and having kids. I was invited to a ton of baby showers and wanted to make them a really special, unique gift that they wouldn’t normally receive. I wanted there to be a “giving back” element to our tiny traveler as well.
I love that you wanted to create such unique gifts. Where do you find inspiration for your creations?
Katherine: I grew up at the Jersey Shore and now live in North Jersey so I tend to make a lot of New Jersey items! However I am constantly getting inspiration from new places, like our “I Love PHX” onesies that use a cactus instead of a heart, fun ideas that are specific to a given area.
What are some tips for running a small shop and family simultaneously?!
Katherine: Right now it’s just my fiancée and myself (hopefully we have some tiny traveler’s of our own soon!) but I have a dedicated spot in our house where I make everything so it stays neat and organized. I dedicate a specific amount of time at night and on the weekends to making everything, so I can balance seeing him, working and taking care of the house.
What can we expect this holiday season?
Katherine: The crewneck sweatshirts for toddlers are brand new and we are going to be expanding to kids t-shirts and sweatshirts and adult sweatshirts as well which will be fun.
Anything else you want to share with the readers?
Katherine: A portion of each sale is donated to children in need. I donate once a year on Giving Tuesday. Last year a good friend of mine was on sabbatical at a women’s co-op in Guatemala so I donated there (a few of our fabrics came from them!) I try to donate to people I know and organizations that they work with. This year I am donating to Malo Uganda which is a non profit based in Point Pleasant, NJ.
