Have you ever been to a salt room before? Prior to experiencing the Austin Salt Room, I hadn’t. I posted some videos on my instagram following my visit there last month and I got a ton of questions. So I worked with the owner, Isabel, of Austin Salt Room to answer the top 5 questions I received.
AND Isabel GENEROUSLY gave me a promo code for my audience for $10 off their first session if you tell them BYOK10 🙂
BYOK: WHAT IS A SALT ROOM?
ISABEL: A salt room is a relaxing and therapeutic space specifically designed to replicate the natural salt caves found in Eastern Europe. Our main salt room is covered in 2 tons of Himalayan salt bricks and the floor is covered with an additional 2 tons of white salt pebbles. In a salt room, finely ground salt particles are dispersed into the air using a specialized device called a halogenerator. As guests breathe in this salty air, one will find to have beneficial effects on respiratory and skin conditions such as asthma, allergies, sinusitis, bronchitis, skin irritations, and stress.
We are the ONLY dedicated salt therapy business in all of Central Texas. Our salt room differs from other salt therapies in Austin by focusing on dry salt therapy. Dry salt therapy takes place when you inhale the salt from the air. This is distinct from water-based treatments like epsom salt baths, floating tanks, or other water-based sinus cleanses such as a neti-pot. We also stand apart from traditional spa settings, as individuals come directly to us to experience the pure advantages of salt therapy. Lastly, we strive to build on Austin’s wellness community by offering events like sound bath, meditation, yoga and more specializing in the drug-free and natural therapy that leaves your sinuses, lungs, skin, and mind clear.
BYOK: WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF SALT THERAPY?
ISABEL: There are many benefits of salt therapy. Three categories where salt therapy has proven to be beneficial are as follows:
- Respiratory Benefits: Clears sinuses and lungs, reducing mucus and toxins. It also has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties for the respiratory tract.
- Skin Health Benefits: Helps reduce redness, acts as an anti-inflammatory agent, aids in exfoliation, and cleanses pores.
- Psychosomatic Benefits: Reduces stress and anxiety, promoting better sleep.
Additionally, salt therapy provides other benefits such as a boosted immune system and reduced allergy symptoms.
In my personal experience, I’ve seen salt therapy clear my sinus blockage, alleviate chest-cold symptoms, and reduce redness in my skin. It’s also helped in soothing itchiness and inflammation from mosquito bites. Moreover, it’s a wonderful, screen-free activity to enjoy with my children, providing relief from potential cold and flu symptoms often associated with daycare and city living.

BYOK: WHAT ABOUT KIDS – CAN THEY GO INTO THE SALT ROOM TOO?
ISABEL: Kids’ sessions at our salt room are an absolute blast! With salt covering the floor and walls, the salt room aesthetic is a surprise for all, creating a playful and immersive experience. Families can choose to spend anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes in the salt room, but the kids get so engrossed in the fun that the 45 minutes seem to just fly by.
During the session, children have a fantastic time playing in the ‘salt-sand’ with the toys we provide, giving them that beach-day feeling. If they’re inclined towards reading, they can also bring or borrow books to enjoy. It’s a win-win for everyone; parents get to relax and unwind while the kids have fun exploring!
In terms of benefits, the salt room offers many advantages for children. It’s especially beneficial for those dealing with ongoing respiratory issues like asthma, allergies, chronic bronchitis, or persistent coughs. Salt therapy provides relief even at the onset or lingering stages of a cold. Additionally, common skin issues like eczema, dry, flaky, or itchy skin find soothing relief in our salt room.
Pricing: For a single kids session, covering one child and one adult, the cost is $65. If you’d like to add another child under 18 to the session, it’s an additional $20. We have perks for opting for a family (4) package – discounted price for the first child and adult with additional kids priced at only $10 and adding another adult for only $30. For more in-depth information on how you can customize your family package, feel free to check out our website or drop by in person. We’re here to ensure your family’s salt room experience is not only memorable but fits your budget too.
BYOK: Who would benefit most from salt therapy and who is it not recommended for?
ISABEL: Salt therapy is beneficial to those who seek preventative wellness and natural drug-free therapies for skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis, dry, flaky, or itchy skin, and respiratory conditions like asthma, allergies, chronic bronchitis, or congestion. The calming environment and potential respiratory improvements contribute to an overall sense of relaxation, making it beneficial for reducing stress and anxiety.
People who have severe or uncontrolled hypertension, active respiratory infections, or contagious conditions should avoid salt therapy. Additionally, individuals with certain skin conditions or open wounds should consult with their healthcare provider before trying it. When in doubt, it’s best to check with a medical professional.
