I have been reading WAY TOO much on Flouride’s link to neurological issues in the past year and made the switch to a hydropatite based toothpaste a few years ago. So when Risewell, a hydroxyapatite based toothpaste company, offered to let me try some of their products – I was SO excited (nerding hard over here). Let’s learn a little bit about the brand together!
BYOK: What makes Risewell different?
The RiseWell Difference
Unlike many natural toothpastes, we don’t just remove the toxic ingredients found in traditional toothpastes; we swap in 100% safe, natural alternatives that clean and protect just as effectively.
At RiseWell, transparency as well as creating the cleanest, most effective oral care products possible are our absolute mission.
The secret behind our clean, effective and fluoride free formulas?
Hydroxyapatite!
Hydroxyapatite is a naturally occurring mineral that makes up 97% of our tooth enamel and has been scientifically-proven to strengthen and protect your teeth without fluoride. While Hydroxyapatite is less known in the US, it’s been the gold standard for naturally, effective oral care in Japan for over 40 years.
Why our products will make you smile!
Hydroxyapatite naturally strengthens, whitens, and remineralizes
As the main component of tooth enamel, Hydroxyapatite chemically binds to teeth and acts as a protective shield. Hydroxyapatite acts as a filler capable of repairing small holes and depressions on the enamel surface, while also naturally whitening .
So safe you can eat it
Inhibits bacteria that cause cavities
When bacteria has no food source, it can’t produce the acids that lead to cavities. And that’s exactly what Xylitol, a naturally occurring alcohol found in most plant material, does in our natural fluoride free toothpaste, our balancing mouthwash, scrubby floss and a-HA mints. It starves harmful bacteria of their food source, preventing the production of acid that causes cavities.
Protects your gums and teeth while freshening your breath
Made with essential oils (like peppermint and tea tree) and extracts (like cinnamon and echinacea) that not only naturally freshen breath, but have also been shown to reduce inflammation, fight bacteria, boost your immune system, and more!
What ingredients are in conventional brands of toothpaste that we should avoid? What is the issue with conventional brands?
Below shows a chart that compares RiseWell to traditional brands and natural brands. We believe avoiding ingredients like SLS (and other similar foaming agents), propylene glycol, and natural flavors and dyes is critical.
We recommend reading labels and avoiding yucky ingredients like these common offenders!
Foaming Agents Mystery Flavors Can’t Pronounce
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate “Natural Flavors” Carrageenan
Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate Strawberry Fruit flavor Extract Propylene Glycol
Sodium Coccyx Glutamate Raspberry Fruit Flavor Extract Titanium Dioxide
Sodium Coccyx Isothionate Chocolate Flavor Extract Blue 1 Vanilla Planifolia Flavor Powder Sodium Monofl.
BYOK: What are some of the star ingredients in Risewell products?
Hydroxyapatite and Xylitol and natural scrubbers like Silica and Calcium Carbonate. We also use all natural extracts like peppermint oils, Tea Tree oils and Cinnamon and vanilla fruit extracts.

BYOK: I love that you also have a kids version of your toothpaste! Is there a difference between the adult v. kids brand?
The adult and kids toothpastes are the exact same formulas, just different flavors. So, kids can absolutely use the adult toothpaste and adults can use the kids (and many do)!
