Just got back to the states last night and I wanted to share with you my number one beauty travel tip I learned from Lauryn Evarts of The Skinny Confidential.
BEAUTY TRAVEL TIP: Keep you lymph fluid in check when you are traveling. Especially in your face.
WHAT?! Okay, so you probably are thinking I am CRAZY right now. But let me explain.
Get yourself either an ice roller or a jade roller OR book yourself an lymphatic massage post flight. (OH and if you signed up for the BYOK Box you will be getting an ice roller in your box, YAY!)
What’s the deal with lymph fluid?
Per Jessica Meirs, LMT, CMLDT of Mend Your Body Massage, LLC, If you sit for too long (such as at a desk or on an airplane), parts of your body may swell such with lymph fluid because nothing is moving the fluid up. Why is that? Well, lymph fluid is made up of water, fats, and proteins. It carries cellular debris to be filtered through the kidneys. It also produces and carries lymphocytes (white blood cells). Essentially, lymph fluid is a part of your immune system and protects your body by flooding damaged areas with fluid to get white blood cells in there and reduce movement to prevent more damage. Lymph fluid is carried through the body in lymph vessels, which are like a hose with doors at various points that open and close, allowing fluid in/out. Lymph fluid also only moves via muscular contraction (if your body is moving) or manual pumping (MLD).
SOLUTION 1: Bring Your Own Roller to Drain your Lymph Fluid, especially in your face
I use either an ice roller (find it here) or a jade roller. I bring both with me when I travel. The ice roller is so effective because the coldness of it also closes your pores. If I am using the jade roller, I usually put vitamin E oil on my face and roll UP for 3-4 minutes.
SOLUTION 2: Get a Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage
MLD massages pump the fluid gently, moving it in the direction of the heart. I got one by Jessica of Mend Your Body Massage, LLC but since the MLD’s are becoming more trendy, they are popping at more spas. Look for one close to you!
I LOVE THIS BEAUTY TIP
I am telling you this is the best tip ever, because how many times do you feel swollen and puffy after traveling for hours. Just plain uncomfortable and stale. By moving the lymph fluid, you can surely increase the flow and get back to normal. And with the ice and jade rollers being so small, they are so easy to pack when your husband is yelling at you to only bring one suitcase to Greece. (AS IF!)
