I didn’t really understand the concept of dry shampoo in my early twenties. Why not just wash your hair every night? Now that I am older and wiser (ahha, maybe) I understand that by washing your hair ever day you:
- Strips your hair of natural oils
- Dull your hair
- Cause more split ends
- If you heat dry it every time, you are doing even more damage
Now that I am a Momma to be and only going to get busier, I am reaching for that dry shampoo a lot more often these days.
However, dry shampoo can be a bit tricky. WHY? Let’s get into the dirty truth.
TOXICITY OF DRY SHAMPOO
First of all, did you know your scalp absorbs 5-10 times quicker than other parts of your body? EEEEK! (Found that bit of information here!).
Therefore you MUST read the ingredients on the bottle. Watch out for ingredients such as Parabens, TALC (linked to cancer), Fragrance (who knows what this actually is because of the “trade secret” laws), Alcohol denat, and more, including chemicals supporting aerosol containers.
Furthermore, if your dry shampoo is coming out of an aerosol can, you can bet it’s hurting the environment, especially our ozone layer.
What’s the solution?
PRIMALLY PURE NONTOXIC DRY SHAMPOO
Honestly, this is one of my most FAVORITE FINDS. First of all, there are only 7 ingredients, all nontoxic and organic. Second, it does not come in an aerosol can – #WINNING. Third, they have both a dark locks (for us brunettes) and light locks version. Honestly, does it get any better than that?!
What is the difference between the two products? Courtney O’Conner of Primally Pure explains:
“Both our Dark + Light Locks Dry Shampoos contain 100% natural + non-toxic ingredients to create a fresh, voluminous finish for your hair. The only difference is that our dry shampoo for dark hair contains more organic cocoa powder for seamless blending with all shades of brunette. Our light locks formula contains smaller amounts of cocoa powder to create an off-white color that blends well with all shades of blonde. We also typically recommend our light locks for our red-head friends! Both are also made with organic essential oils of grapefruit (natural cleansing properties), lavender (soothes scalp) and peppermint (stimulates hair growth).”
As a whole Primally Pure is an EXTREMELY passionate company when it comes to nontoxic products. Courtney advocates on behalf of Primally Pure and states:
“Conventional beauty + body products are one of the biggest contributors to our toxic load. There are countless pollutants and chemicals in our environment that we can’t control, so it’s important to be conscious of the choices we can make to minimize the toxic buildup in our bodies – with what we put on our plates and apply to our skin. Our bodies can handle occasional chemicals but when exposed consistently and daily, disease and health conditions are more likely to occur. Our passion + purpose at Primally Pure is to protect the health of our customers and educate others on the reality of harmful chemicals in conventional beauty products and that they have the power to make different decisions to impact their health, their home and their family in positive ways. Even just swapping out something as simple as your deodorant or dry shampoo for a natural alternative is a powerful step towards improved health + well-being.”
This is what makes me feel so STRONGLY in supporting brands such as Primally Pure who not only make QUALITY products but also support a mission.
