One of the top questions I get is: I’m on a budget, how do I eat organic when it is SO MUCH MORE expensive? Well here is a pro tip. The EWG (Environmental Working Group) creates a list every year of the DIRTY DOZEN and CLEAN FIFTEEN.
The Dirty Dozen is a list of the produce with the highest residue of PESTICIDES. This means, you should be buying the list of dirty dozen produce ORGANIC. And use a vegetable wash like this one and vegetable brush – ALWAYS!
The Clean Fifteen is a list of produce least likely to be contaminated by pesticides and when tested had less than 4 pesticides. As my own personal rule of thumb, I know if something has a hard exterior like a pineapple, it is less likely pesticides will penetrate that surface.
I always wash my vegetables regardless. But if you are on a budget, you can opt for purchasing the dirty dozen organic and the clean fifteen not organic. Find the list below and screen shot it for your next grocery trip!
