Book recommendation:
- 40 Day Sugar Fast by Wendy Speake ***This fast is highly compatible and I base this challenge based on her recommendations***
- The Case Against Sugar
- Full: Food, Jesus, and the Battle for Satisfaction
- The Whole30
- The 21 Day Sugar Detox
Write down your commitment. Our goal is to eliminate refined sugars for 40 days – no baked goods, sugary snacks, coffee creamer, candy, etc. This includes refined sugar, high fructose sugar and the like. But also decide if you are going to eliminate all sugar including honey and fruit OR will you allow it? Personally, I will do not refined sugar and natural sugars, but will allow fresh fruit OCCASIONALLY. Write down your commitment before this challenge.
Tips:
- Bag up all your high in sugar and highly processed foods and remove them from your pantry.
- Stock pantry and fridge with healthy food options.
- Meal prep
Food to stock up on:
- Raw nuts
- nut butters
- unsweetened dry fruit
- chia, flax, sunflower seeds
- protein bars (aloha has 1g of sugar, no added sugars)
- beef jerky
- oatmeal
- rotisserie chicken
- fish, beef, poultry
- sandwich meat
- eggs
- veggies: spinach, broccoli, Brussels, tomatoes, etc
- avocados
- pesto
- herbal tea
Here is a sample meal plan that my friend Kimberly created for a previous sugar fast that I did with her. Feel free to modify it (and remove the natural sugars if you deem necessary to your commitment!)
