Valentina founded ValDesigns at 16 years old…
Um yeah you read that correctly. Do you feel like an underachiever after hearing that? I sure do.
You KNOW I LOVE a good #bossbabe story and this one is not only inspiring as Valentina is such a YOUNG entrepreneur but she also has great tips for newbie entrepreneurs. Valentina Quiroga grew up in Miami, Florida and at just 21 years old she is the founder of ValDesigns. She also carries a masters degree in marketing from Florida International University.
Back in 2011, her dad had given her some guidance and encouraged her to enter the online retail market as there was so much potential. So she started off by making a few “my other bag is prada” bags and sold them on eBay. She had posted them at 6:30 pm and by 4 am the next morning, all 12 bags were sold out.
“I have always been very into fashion and my parents are in the industry so that made it easy for me. When I was little I would create sweaters for school trips every year and sell them so I had always had that designer and entrepreneur gene in me.”
From there, she expanded into other products. She currently has over 250 items in her inventory and sells everything from work out clothes, to cell phone cases, to baseball caps (with adorable slogans, I just got a “brunch babe” one!).
Inspiration and Challenges
Valentina says one of the hardest things about being an entrepreneur is motivating yourself. Since no one is making you get your to do list done, you have to push yourself. You also don’t have someone else to guide you, since you are doing something innovative and new, and your self employed, so you have to learn from you mistakes.
Her number one tip is to learn how to deal with the challenges.
“The road to success is not a straight upright road so set backs obviously happen. When you are doing so well and something comes and just knocks you off your feet finding the motivation to keep going is difficult…..If you fall 5 times get up 6. The potential of the business is what gets me going when things are tough.”
Another piece of advice she has for girls who wish to become entrepreneurs to is work hard and never give up. Although cliche, her advice is sound. “The world is full of potential! talk to people, make new friends, and always follow your heart and gut instinct… it never lies.”
What does the Future hold?
As for the future of ValDesigns, Valentina has alot on her mind. The business has grown exponentially since 2011 and in particular the past two years.
“I started Valdesigns off with designer parody apparel and it changed into a full blown line with fun phrases, athleisure clothes, baseball caps, everything you can think of basically Valdesigns has it! ValDesigns has the capacity to create custom orders since all manufacturing is owned by them so anything you ever want you can get!”
She sees herself expanding and growing ValDesigns even more, and journeying through additional business ventures. I don’t think Valentina will be giving up her entrepreneurship anytime soon.
AND she was SO generous as she is offering all the BYOK readers a discount code for her products until August 26, 2017. Use promo code BYOK at checkout! (I already snagged a brunch babe hat for a upcoming bachlorette party in the hamptons yay!)
