I can’t believe there are only 4 more #bossbabe features left. So many of you have reached out and expressed how much you love these features and I am SO grateful that y’all keep coming back to read my blog. This week’s post is about Carolyn, North Carolina native, who quit her cushy job at Ernst & Young to follow her passion of creating her own jewelry company. Takes guts doesn’t it? Grab a booch and check out her story.
Southern Belle & Simply Southern Baubles
Carolyn was born and raised in North Carolina and is the most endearing southern belle. She is obsessed with personalizing anything and everything which is how the idea of hand stamping jewelry came out.
“To me jewelry is not only accessory to an outfit but it also tells a story about the person who is wearing it…. My main focus is to create a piece that will appeal to every women and can tell their story.”
Since high school, she has always enjoyed making jewelry for herself. Friends and family always inquired where she bought her jewelry and over time she starting making pieces for them. But for many years she kept it as a hobby. After she was married she moved to Dallas and worked at Ernst & Young for four years. But when she made her most recent move back to the east coast with her husband, she decided to take a leap of faith, leave her position at her cushy job and pursue a jewelry line full time. Simply Southern Baubles was born.
Business Advice from a Pro!
She attributes the audacity to make such a move to the encouragement and support she has received from her husband, family and friends. But running a business doesn’t come without its challenges.
“The biggest challenge I have faced as an entrepreneur is staying patient. I tend to get discouraged but starting a business is no easy task. I found that practicing patience will increase my ability to reach success. I have to remind myself to remain calm during the big and small twists and turns that come with owning my own business. When we’re impatient, we’re unable to work toward our business goals in a dedicated fashion which then leads to quitting and NOBODY likes a quitter!!”
But like all successful boss babes, Carolyn has found that the key to success is to stay dream driven.
“Dreams inspire people to set goals, and to strive and we have had them since we were kids! Although childhood dreams can be a little outlandish, as adults we know what our true passions are. Whatever it may be, use it as motivation to change it from a “dream” to reality!! & yes, staying motivated wanes over time because maybe you’re not seeing progress or life just happens but that is why staying focused is not only important, it’s crucial. Create milestones that will help you move towards reaching your dreams without losing your focus. For example, set a monthly goal or even a weekly goal. It’ll help you stay on track as you continue to reach for that long-term goal. Hold tight to your dreams, and once you reach them share your vision to inspire others!
Carolyn wants to see where Simply Southern Baubles will take her.
“Part of me does not want to plan every detail in my life because it is always good to maintain an element of uncertainty which is part of the excitement of entrepreneurship. My main objective is to continue to pursue my passion with Simply Southern Baubles. I have done the long days, nights and weekends in the corporate world and I hope SSB will continue to strive and grow as much as a corporation could. I have some future plans for Simply Southern Baubles such as working alongside other small businesses and I hope to expand into other products.”
